This workshop is brought to you by Briar de Wolfe, a Toronto-based jewelry house known for its custom jewelry, made-to-order and small-batch creations. We’re excited to share our passion and expertise with you, helping you bring your own unique piece to life.

In this workshop, we’ll dive into:

  • Materials & Tools: A hands-on intro to everything you’ll use

  • The Design Process: Bring your creativity to life with guidance or prompt-led play

  • January 25-A Focus on Rings: Design a piece that’s totally unique to you

  • January 26-A Focus on Pendants: Create your dream design that personal to you
  • Your Choice of Wax Weight: Experiment with different sizes and styles!

(Just a tip: 1 gram of carving wax will cast to around 15.58 grams of silver, so you can plan your design accordingly! )

At the end, you’ll have the option to cast your piece if you'd like—starting at just $45 for sterling silver. Each workpiece is carefully weighed and priced on the spot, so you’ll know exactly what to expect. Casting options are also available in 10K,14k, 18K, 22K and Platinum. 

Definitions:

cast: an object made by shaping molten metal or similar material in a mold
casting: refers to the process of pouring molten metal into a mold to create a solid object.
sculpting: refers to the process of shaping or carving material (such as wax) to create artistic forms
"lost wax" process: is a method of metal casting where a wax model is incased in a disposable ceramic mold. When heated, the wax melts away, leaving a cavity that is filled with molten metal to create the final object.
medium in this context: Medium refers to the material or substances used by artists to create their work. In this workshop, the medium refers to wax used for sculpting and casting jewelry.

Access & Care  @unit.270 is located on the 2nd floor of Chinatown Centre (222 Spadina Ave) in unit #270. There are numerous entrances into Chinatown Centre and most of them have several steps.

The accessible entrance is beyond the 'Everyone Needs a Home' sign, where there's an awning that says ‘Chinatown Centre’. This entrance has no steps and is fully accessible.

There is an elevator and escalator on the main floor that can take you upstairs to the gallery.

There are gendered bathrooms that are fully accessible on the 2nd floor during regular mall hours.

Upon request, there's a non-gendered and private bathroom that’s not accessible. Seating is available at the gallery as well as masks and hand sanitizer (we highly suggest wearing a mask to protect our most vulnerable community members).
